2023 Pilgrimage Traminette (Estate)

$26.99 / bottle

Vinification:

Traminette is a late bud break and mid-late ripening variety in our vineyard. 2023 was a near perfect growing season in the midwest with a long period a warm dry weather late in the season.

Although we could have waited two more weeks to pick, we had good ripeness numbers and flavor development by mid-September. We picked 1.66 tons of some of the best fruit we have produced thus far, with a golden tan on the grapeskins, evidence of the mono-terpenes present.

The wine was fermented in stainless for 21 days at 55 degrees, using 58w3 yeast, and finished cleanly maximizing aromatics. The wine was then racked and stored in stainess, and on the lees over winter during cold stabilization.

A small amount of Isinglass was used to smooth the wine out prior to bottling and a 1 micron cartridge filter was used at bottling, maximizing clarity.

Tasting Notes:

Featuring the state grape of Indiana, this wine shows all the tell-tale signs of great Traminette or Gewurtztraminer. Melon on the nose with a hint of spice and mandarin orange. Despite its low pH and high acidity, it still drinks dry, racy, and with a smooth, round finish. Aged on the lees in stainless steel for 9 months prior to bottling with minimal racking. Should age 1 to 5 years and is drinking well now.
